Re-Roofing Permit

Beginning August 5, 2023, a re-roofing permit must be obtained from the Jefferson Parish Department of Building Permits prior to replacement of roof covering (50% or more) on all one and two-family dwellings in unincorporated Jefferson Parish. Re-Roofing must comply with the 2021 International Residential Code. 

Establishing a re-roofing permit process provides both short-term and long-term benefits. It provides homeowners with documentation that the installed new roof covering complies with current building code requirements and it also provides a data set the parish can provide to property insurers regarding the parish-wide housing stock compliance with building codes when insurers are considering where to write policies.
