Arita Bohannan is an attorney, author, former magistrate and professional mediator.
Arita graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree before attending Loyola University New Orleans’ College of Law, where she earned her Juris Doctor degree and special certificates in common law and international law. Arita’s work has been published in the Loyola Law Review, and in 2002 was a speaker at the Symposium against Domestic Violence. She was the winner of the 2001 Association of Trial Attorneys’ in-house trial competition. She worked briefly as a law clerk for the Orleans Parish’s district attorney’s office and as a clinical attorney for Loyola law school, the latter with the Indigent Defender Board.
She is the owner of a family law firm, Bohannan & Associates, since 2002. She opened the Mediation Clinic of Louisiana several years ago after seeing a need for mediation for families in crisis in hopes of avoiding lengthy and expensive court battles.
She is a member of several legal organizations including the Louisiana State Bar Association, the Jefferson Bar Association, the EJBA, the Jefferson Chamber, the LFRW, the River Region Republican Women (which she was a founding board member) and other professional organizations.
She has been a member of several boards, including those serving victims of domestic and sexual violence, and often donates hours of pro bono work to those in need. She has owned a small family law firm since 2002 and is one of New Orleans most sought-after domestic law attorneys.
She and her husband are the founders of Anthony’s Missing Pieces Playground, a unique inclusionary playground located near the heart of Kenner in Holly Heights’ Miquez Park. It is the first Inclusionary Park of its kind in the entire state and one of only eleven in the nation. The park is designed for people on the spectrum, have sensory, mental and/or physical disabilities.
Raised an army brat, Mrs. Bohannan was the victim of childhood sexual abuse. Her personal story, paired with her love of the law, has provided her with a unique perspective that enhances her writing and speaking. Her novel, Docket No. 76 has won an Indie Book Award for the Thriller Division. It was also a Finalist in the 1st Time Author Division. It has also won National Indie Excellence Award in the Thriller/Suspense Division. Arita has been invited to speak at numerous events including several Key Note Addresses at Military Bases, schools, organizations and symposiums. Her speeches, while ever changing and topic specific, deliver a powerful and inspirational message.
Arita lives in Kenner. Her and her husband have two sons, Deuce and Bryce. Her favorite pastime is traveling with her family.
