The enactment of the Drug-Free Workplace Act of 1988 cemented the commitment of Jefferson Parish to provide its employees with a healthy, safe, drug-free, and productive work environment.
It is the policy of Jefferson Parish to provide a work environment which is free from the use, sale, possession, or distribution of illegal drugs or the improper or abusive use of legal drugs or alcohol on Parish premises, and to require all Jefferson Parish employees to perform all job duties, either on or off Parish premises, without the presence of illegal drugs, alcohol, or inappropriate legal drugs in their system. The detailed provisions of this policy are contained in the Substance Use Policy booklet provided to all employees by the Department of Human Resource Management. Violations of this policy will result in disciplinary action, up to and including termination. All employees must, as a condition of employment, abide by the terms of this policy.
Jefferson Parish's Substance Use Program authorizes drug and/or alcohol testing for:
- pre-employment
- accidents
- reasonable suspicion
- sensitive/public safety positions
- conditional employment
