2020 CENSUS DEADLINE QUICKLY APPROACHING
JEFFERSON, LA – The deadline for Jefferson Parish residents to complete the 2020 Census is quickly approaching. Households have until Wednesday, September 30, 2020 to respond and be counted.
“In 2010, Jefferson Parish had a 66.5% self-response rate,” said Jefferson Parish President Cynthia Lee Sheng. “We are in the home stretch and must not lose sight of how important it is that every Jefferson Parish resident responds to the 2020 Census, which will help shape the future of our community.”
The census provides critical data that lawmakers, business owners, teachers and many others use to provide daily services, products and support to the community. Every year, billions of dollars in federal funding go to hospitals, fire departments, schools, roads and other resources based on census data.
According to Census Bureau officials, Jefferson Parish’s self-response rate is currently at 66.3%, slightly lower than the previous count held in 2010. The following is a ranking of self-response rate by municipality in Jefferson Parish as of today, September 23, 2020:
- Harahan: 76.2%
- Jean Lafitte: 66.6%
- Kenner: 66.2%
- Westwego: 63.5%
- Gretna: 63.1%
- Grand Isle: 13.6%
Census workers are currently working throughout the parish to count those households that haven’t responded.
