JEFFERSON PARISH GOVERNMENT OFFICES CLOSED ON THURSDAY, JULY 4
AND FRIDAY, JULY 5, 2024 IN OBSERVANCE OF INDEPENDENCE DAY
Changes to drop-off recycling program; two libraries open as cooling centers
JEFFERSON, LA – All Jefferson Parish Government offices will be closed on Thursday, July 4 and Friday, July 5, 2024 in observance of the Independence holiday. Below is additional closure information and changes in service:
- Curbside Garbage Collection - There will be no curbside garbage collection on Thursday, July 4, 2024 for residents of Unincorporated Jefferson Parish and the Town of Jean Lafitte. There will be no make-up day for the missed garbage collection on Independence Day; the next collection day for those scheduled to have garbage pick-up on Thursdays will be Monday, July 8, 2024. In addition, the Jefferson Parish Landfill and all drop-off sites will be closed on Thursday, July 4 and will reopen for normal operations on Friday, July 5, 2024. - Recycling - As a reminder, beginning Saturday, July 6, 2024, the East Bank recycling drop-off site will move from the parking lot of the Joseph S. Yenni Building to Republic Service’s Materials Recovery Facility (804 L&A Road, Metairie, LA 70001). Additionally, hours of operations for both the East Bank and the West Bank drop-off sites (6440 Lapalco Boulevard, Marrero, LA 70072) will now be from 8 a.m. to noon. - Parks and Recreation (JPRD) - All Jefferson Parish Parks & Recreation (JPRD) parks and playgrounds (not including Lafreniere Park and Parc des Familles) will be closed on Thursday, July 4 and Friday, July 5, 2024. There will be no events and programs over the holiday break, with the exception of the DYB Franchise Baseball Tournament at LaSalle Park on July 5, 2024. All other classes and programs will resume on Saturday, July 6, 2024.
- Libraries - All parish libraries, except for the River Ridge Library (8825 Jefferson Highway, River Ridge, LA 70123) and the Terrytown Library (680 Heritage Avenue, Terrytown, LA 70056), will be closed on Thursday, July 4 and Friday, July 5, 2024. The River Ridge and Terrytown libraries will remain open as cooling centers from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. There will be no programming at these libraries; however, basic services such as materials check-out and computer usage will be available, and all residents are welcome to utilize these facilities to stay cool.
- Transit - Jefferson Parish Transit will be running a Saturday holiday schedule on Thursday, July 4 and will resume normal services on Friday, July 5, 2024.
- Jefferson Protection & Animal Welfare Services (JPAWS) - The Jefferson Protection & Animal Welfare Services (JPAWS), will be closed on Thursday, July 4 and Friday, July 5 and will resume normal operations on Saturday, July 6, 2024.
- American Job Centers - The Jefferson Parish East and West Bank American Job Centers will be closed on Thursday, July 4 and Friday, July 5 and will reopen to the public on Monday, July 8, 2024. For unemployment services, residents can call 1-866-783-5567.
