JEFFERSON PARISH RECEIVES DISTINGUISHED BUDGET PRESENTATION AWARD FOR 31ST CONSECUTIVE YEAR

JEFFERSON, LA – Jefferson Parish is the recipient of the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for the 31st consecutive year. This award is the highest form of recognition in governmental budgeting.

According to Parish President Cynthia Lee Sheng, “I am so proud of our staff, led by Finance Director Timothy Palmatier and Budget Director Susan Andrews, for once again receiving this honor by meeting the highest principles of governmental budgeting. This award represents a significant achievement by our Jefferson Parish Budget Department.”

The GFOA of the United States and Canada has recognized the Jefferson Parish Budget Department for the budget preparation and presentation for the Fiscal Year beginning January 1, 2024. In order to receive the budget award, Jefferson Parish had to satisfy nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation. These guidelines are designed to assess how well an entity's budget serves as a policy document, financial plan, operations guide and communications device. Budget documents must be rated “proficient” in all four ranking categories and the fourteen mandatory criteria within those categories to receive the award.

GFOA’s Distinguished Budget Presentation Award Program is the only National Awards Program in governmental budgeting. According to GFOA, award recipients have proven to pioneer efforts to improve the quality of budgeting and provide an excellent example for other governments throughout North America.

GFOA advances excellence in government finance by providing best practices, professional development, resources and practical research for more than 22,500 members and the communities they serve. There are over 1,700 participants in the Budget Awards Program. The most recent Budget Award recipients, along with their corresponding budget documents, are posted quarterly on GFOA's website, www.GFOA.org.
