Metairie, LA - Please join Councilwoman Jennifer Van Vrancken, President Michael S. Yenni, and Jefferson Parish Officials for a ribbon cutting celebrating extensive renovations to Johnny Bright Playground (3401 Cleary Avenue) on Today, December 19, 2019, at 5:30 pm. Built in 1965, Johnny Bright Playground needed many improvements, including upgrades to the gymnasium interior, roof, floors, windows, fencing, and signage. The roof, windows, gutters, and exhaust fans were all replaced; the metal sign on the building was repainted to add the Falcon logo. Inside the gymnasium, acoustical tile ceilings have been installed with LED light fixtures, and exposed conduits were replaced and concealed. Renovations to the meeting rooms, hallways, assistant’s office, and restrooms have been completed. Vinyl plank flooring was installed in the hallway and meeting rooms, and all walls have been painted. The restrooms received upgraded toilets, partitions, hand dryers and baby changing stations, and all restrooms are now ADA accessible. “This year was one of great improvement in modernizing parish facilities in District 5 — Bright and Cleary playgrounds, the Metairie Road Library and Bucktown Harbor Boardwalk are all projects that make Metairie a more enjoyable and vibrant community,” said Jennifer Van Vrancken. “Just like when I was a little girl playing at Bright, I am excited that our residents will continue to enjoy recreation at this gym and playground for years to come!” Principal Engineering, Inc. completed construction and design engineering. The contractor was Crescent Commercial Construction. Total project cost approximately $778,767.46 of Council District 5 funds.
